Greater laminitis risk in obese horses
OBESE horses and ponies are in greater danger if they develop laminitis according to research.
A study carried out by the British Veterinary Association Animal Welfare Foundation and Merial Animal Health examined all the factors that affect the likelihood of recovery from the disease.
The results showed that obese animals were much more likely to die if affected, than those who were a healthy weight.

Association contacts boot members about legislation
THE British Equestrian Trade Association is contacting all its boot manufacturing members following calls from equine health experts to introduce industry wide legislation.
BETA has written to all the association members that are involved in producing protective boots to find out what their thoughts are on the new research and on the idea of introducing industry standards.
Claire Williams, BETA's executive director, said: 'We have not heard back from all members yet, but so far the reactions have been very mixed."
